Achieve Success By Giving Your Business
A Strong Advisory Team

Most small and medium enterprises have got to where they are by hard work and entrepreneurial spirit, but all too often they find that growth has stalled – and they can’t seem to get it going again.

The problem most of these businesses are facing is that, while they have the energy and talent to achieve success, they don’t have the experience of running a large company. Without this experience it’s very difficult to grow a medium business into a large one. What they need is a way to access that experience, and leverage it to achieve their growth targets.

In the long run, the success of your business relies on having the right expertise to deal with each challenge you face along the way. An advisory board will let you access that expertise in a way that’s tailored to what your business needs.

At its simplest, an advisory board is an experienced chairperson combined with an internal team. Over time, other people can be added to the board as required.

Advisory boards are flexible, adaptable, inexpensive and innovative — a perfect antidote to today’s complex and ambiguous business world and the best way to realise significant success.

In this groundbreaking book, you’ll learn:

  • How an advisory board is structured, and what it does
  • Why a board increases, not reduces, your control of the business
  • Ways to use your board effectively to free up your time
  • How to have a proactive board without inefficient bureaucracy
  • The truth about how advisory boards improve business performance

A personal note from Peter…

Through my career I’ve seen many businesses run into problems because their owners didn’t have easy access to advice and expertise when they needed it. I’ve seen thriving, successful companies hit a growth ceiling that they couldn’t seem to break through, no matter how hard they tried. Again, this usually seemed to boil down to a lack of the right advice.

These businesses were moving into unexplored territory, and while their owners were smart, dynamic people, they simply didn’t have the experience to cope with growing above a certain size.

I have worked with business leaders individually and through peer groups, and heard many of them say that they wished they had someone they could turn to for advice when they faced unexpected challenges.

For years I wondered how successful, ambitious people could arrange things so that they had access to the expertise and wisdom it takes to grow a business beyond the point where enthusiasm and hard work can take you on their own. Was there some structure that would give them the backup they needed without the complication and expense of a board of directors?

Finally I discovered advisory boards, and over the past few years I’ve been heavily involved in bringing this concept to Australia. Why have I made this decision? It’s simple. An advisory board does exactly what most businesses need – it gives them guidance, easily accessible experience, and wise counsel.

Businesses have never needed knowledge and expertise more than they do today. In a career spanning more than 30 years, I’ve seen the importance of good advice steadily growing. Now I’m working to address that on behalf of hardworking entrepreneurs.

About Peter Williams

Peter Williams is widely recognised as Australia’s leading authority on business advisory boards. With over thirty years of experience across a range of industries, he has been chosen to lead many high-profile projects.

Trained as an engineer, Peter began his career working on mining projects in Western Australia; among other things, he managed Australia’s first high-volume diamond mine. His experience led him into the investment banking sector, which sought him out for his mining expertise.

As an experienced mining engineer, Peter was responsible for evaluating mining projects on behalf of investors, looking at their feasibility in both engineering and management terms. He worked in this sector for ten years, and covered jobs ranging from major oil projects to precious metal mines.

Next, Peter moved to the Western Australia Water Corporation, where he was responsible for preparing the utility for a possible privatisation; he also introduced desalination to the state. Then, after four years at the Water Corporation, he decided it was time to give something back to the managers he’s worked with.

After working with business leader peer groups and as a mentor, Peter became involved with advisory boards. He has chaired over 15 public company and advisory boards across 13 different industries, steering them through rapid growth, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, and strategic, financial and risk issues.

He ultimately set up the Australian Advisory Boards Institute to help business owners access the advice and experience they needed.

Peter’s strength is in his experience and ability to put flexible, properly structured boards in place. If you’re a business owner, and you’re finding it lonely at the top, you shouldn’t miss this opportunity to read Peter’s thoughts on how to move forward.

Are You Ready For Your Own Advisory Board? demolishes the myths and misunderstandings that surround top-level business advice. Drawing on his own experience, and illustrating each point with case studies, Peter will show you how you can transform your business and turbocharge your growth potential.
